The Educational World

Over the past few years, there have been several headlines across the country that reiterate the challenges Christians have within the education system.  Tolerance education, safe sex, evolution, religious rights, equal rights… nothing seems to be immune to what the general public believes should be taught to tomorrow’s leaders.  In fact, the arguments are even becoming part of the general classroom thanks to the media.  Teachers are opening many of these topics to debate within the classroom which, in turn, comes out of the classroom in the form of texts, YouTube videos, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and any other social media available to the general public.

My name is J. Gavin Dickson and I speak as one who has witnessed and experienced the positive and negative impacts these arguments have on the upcoming generation and on the families that are trying to do what’s right.  As a public educator, I have spent countless hours trying to figure out how to share truth in a very confused world.  As a minister, I have lost count of the parents who have approached me with the one question we all ask ourselves, “What can I do to protect my children?”  Parents have a difficult task raising the next generation as their children hear numerous conflicting perspectives.  The lives of today’s youth aren’t much easier since they only want the answers to life but, instead, are dealt a load of confusing information that suggests that they find the answer themselves.

You are probably wondering what makes me such an expert.  Well, honestly, I’m not.  I’m a parent and a Christian who’s trying to find answers to some of the same questions you have, the kind of questions that lead you to this site.  Yep, it’s a difficult world we live in, but I guarantee you, I know someone who is bigger than the problems we all face. In the midst of challenges, I can’t help but reflect on this truth:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. ~ Proverbs 3:5-8 (NAS)

My prayer is to combine my years of ministerial and educational experience in a way that will aide you in your journey to finding Biblical Truths in raising tomorrow’s generation. As you search, feel free to ask questions, share your experiences, or provide a testimony in what Truth God has revealed to you.
