We have had students coming into school with notes from their parents stating that they were absent for a religious holy day. I have not heard of this holy day. What do I do?

It is permissible to contact the head of the church and determine from their response as to if this is a required holy day for their faith. If the day is a required day of observance for the faith, then school personnel should retain the documentation for the absence and correct the official attendance for the student. A note requesting the change for the holy day must be submitted.
